  • What is a Certificate of Eligibility?

    A Certificate of Eligibility for English Language Education (Déclaration d’admissibilité à l’enseignement en anglais) is a Quebec-government issued document allowing a child to attend a subsidized English Elementary or Secondary school.

    Miss Edgar’s and Miss Cramp’s School (ECS) no longer accepts Quebec government grants, therefore, all candidates who apply, despite their previous language of study or immigration status, will be able to submit an application. If accepted, they can attend the school.

    Although eligibility certificates are no longer required, the school will still assist families in getting their child’s eligibility certificate, if they qualify. This document is important for all students who wish to have their eligibility rights for future generations.
  • Do we offer English as a Second Language (ESL)?

    Our school is committed to providing our students with an exceptional education. In order to ensure that all students can benefit and actively participate in our curriculum and activities, a command of the English language is essential.

    We do not offer English as a Second Language (ESL). All students are required to be proficient in English prior to enrolling. Students should be able to:
    • Understand and follow instructions in English;
    • Read and comprehend grade-level texts;
    • Write in English at grade level;
    • Participate in classroom discussions;
    • Communicate effectively with teachers and peers.
  • How do we assess English language proficiency?

    English is assessed during the Admissions process (admissions readiness testing and interview).

    For students applying for Grade 9 or above, they may be asked to complete/provide an English second language proficiency test and score within a specific range for the level of English required to graduate under ministry standards.

C.A.T. Testing

For all students applying to Grade 7, we ask that they complete an online Admissions test. There are no available CAT test dates at this time. Dates for the next admissions year will be posted in September 2025. For more information on the CAT online exam, please click here.
