What have you been up to since graduating in 2018?
I graduated Marianopolis Health Sciences in 2020, and then got into McGill Med through the Med-P program. I am currently just about to start my last year of med school.
What inspired you to pursue medicine?
I tore my ACL (ligament in my knee!) when I was 11 years old while doing gymnastics. I had an amazing surgeon and was inspired to pursue a career in orthopaedics.
How did ECS impact your career path?
In grade 10, I was awarded the Maysie Macsporran Prize, which allowed me to travel to Tanzania for a global health project. This experience ignited my passion for global health, and I have remained actively involved in this field throughout medical school. I am currently conducting research in Nunavik (Northern Quebec) and will be travelling to Senegal this summer with the MUHC Center for Global Surgery. I hope to somehow integrate global surgery into my future practice.
What do you miss most about ECS?
My classmates, teachers, the sunny graduate hallway, Bucky, the coziness of the school, and honestly, just about everything!
What is the greatest lesson you learned at ECS and still carry with you to this day?
The greatest lesson I learned at ECS and still carry with me is that girls can do anything. Only about 9% of practicing orthopaedic surgeons are female. While many girls may believe they can do anything, ECS really taught me how to go out there and make it happen.
Your favourite memory!
So many good memories, but probably either the grade 10 Jazz Band sleepover where we baked cookies in the Kindergarten classroom (shoutout to Laurel!), recording a mixtape in the sound studio, or Spanish class.
Any words of wisdom for our current students?
Keep pursuing your dreams and don’t let anyone tell you what you’re capable of because only you can determine that. Try to learn good study habits early on, stay focused on your goals and work hard towards them.
